At Portland, technology is integrated purposefully throughout the curriculum to enhance engagement, build independence, and support a wide range of learning needs. Across subjects, digital tools provide consistency, structure, and opportunities for creative expression.

Portland will implement a structured three-year ICT curriculum pathway to further strengthen progression, accreditation, and preparation for next steps. The curriculum is designed as a progressive three-year pathway, supporting pupils from foundational digital skills through to GCSE readiness:

Year 1: Integrated ICT

Year 2: Entry Level ICT

Year 3: NCFE Level 1 ICT

This structured approach ensures a clear and coherent progression, aligned with pupils’ needs within an SEMH setting

  • Focus on foundational digital literacy and confidence
  • Core skills: basic device use, word processing, online safety, simple research

Year 3: NCFE Level 1 ICT (2027–2028)

  • Delivery of a recognised NCFE Level 1 qualification
  • Units include digital documents, communication, online safety, and data handling
  • Project-based, real-life learning contexts
