Clinical Therapy at Portland
Supporting Children’s Emotional Wellbeing
We are thrilled to introduce our new Clinical Therapy Offer at Portland — a meaningful step forward in supporting the emotional and mental wellbeing of our children and their families.
This initiative brings qualified psychotherapists into our school environment to deliver tailored therapeutic support. We understand that accessing help externally can be slow and overwhelming — our children need support now, and we’re proud to be making it happen.
What We Offer
Our therapy provision includes multiple tiers of support, designed to meet children where they are emotionally and developmentally. These layers of care provide a safe, nurturing space for children to explore their feelings, build resilience, and develop healthy coping strategies.
Therapies will be delivered by qualified, experienced professionals who specialise in:
Counselling
Counselling offers children a confidential space to talk about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It helps them make sense of challenges, build emotional awareness, and feel heard.
Benefits:
Builds self-esteem and confidence
Supports emotional regulation
Encourages healthy relationships
What to Expect:
Sessions are child-led, focusing on what feels most important to them. The therapist listens, supports, and gently guides the child through their emotional journey.
Talking Therapy
Talking therapy helps children express themselves through conversation, storytelling, and reflective dialogue. It’s especially helpful for children who may struggle to articulate their emotions.
Benefits:
Reduces anxiety and stress
Improves communication skills
Helps children process difficult experiences
What to Expect:
Therapists work at the child’s pace, using creative and age-appropriate methods to encourage open conversation.
Art Therapy
Art therapy provides a safe, creative space for children to explore their emotions through drawing, painting, and other artistic activities. It’s not about being “good at art” — it’s about expression.
Benefits:
Encourages emotional expression
Supports trauma recovery
Builds self-awareness and confidence
What to Expect:
Weekly sessions tailored to each child’s interests and goals
A gentle, supportive approach that respects the child’s pace
Collaboration between the therapist, child, and school to ensure the best outcomes
Privacy and Safety
Children’s privacy is a priority. All information shared in therapy remains confidential within the YESS team, unless:
There is a risk of harm to the child or others
Abuse or neglect is suspected
Legal obligations require disclosure
If safeguarding concerns arise, the child will be informed and supported throughout the process.
